Discover your authentic self and find peace within

Do you ever feel like you have to hide who you really are within your family, school, workplace, place of worship or relationships? Do you mess up, say the wrong things and want to hide in shame? Maybe you don’t even feel safe within yourself? Do you judge or harshly criticize yourself? You are not alone.

Much like a dragonfly nymph, I spent a great deal of my life in the depths of murky waters where the sun cannot reach. I was burdened by heavy shame, self-loathing and a need to keep the real me hidden from others to see. I exhausted myself striving for worthiness. Through a journey of transformation and healing, I discovered a passport to new life. Just as a dragonfly breaks free from a hard imprisoning exoskeleton, I broke free from the self-imprisonment of shame and found acceptance in my authentic self. As Brene Brown states “You either walk inside your story and own it or you stand outside your story and hustle for your worthiness.”

A dragonfly emerges out of darkness and bursts into life from a set of delicate and vulnerable wings. In just the same way, I left the confines of shame through vulnerability and transparency. I discovered shame could no longer imprison me when sharing my story with safe people who respond with empathy and understanding. “Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen.” Brene Brown

I learned to take flight and burst into new life embracing who I am with the courage to present my imperfect self to the world. As a therapist, I now use tools I’ve learned throughout my journey to help others. It is an honor to walk with others as they learn to work with themself instead of against.

“Our willingness to own and engage with our vulnerability determines the depth of our courage and the clarity of our purpose; the level to which we protect ourselves from being vulnerable is a measure of our fear and disconnection. Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing we’ll ever do.” Brene Brown
